Yes I finally had my turn about six weeks ago....whilst it's not something you would want to catch, it can, after all, kill you (I already know a work acquaintance who died from malaria) it wasn't so bad...The first day was pretty rough with lots of vomit through the night leading on to evacuations of another sort (sounds almost like college!) but after the initial stages the main thing was the tiredness. A quick trip to the Medical Centre for diagnosis and once confirmed a short dose of meds for three days, some rest and good as new! It's remarkable how quickly you feel better especially considering all you hear of malaria when your nice and safe in Europe. Mind you it just shows what a difference a good education and access to medical care can do...unfortunately neither are as widespread as they should be hence the high rate of deaths in Africa (and other places) from malaria. Depending on the figures you read somewhere between 200,000 and 1,000,000 deaths occur each year from malaria and Ghana features in the top 10 places by number of cases per 100,000 population.
